WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND THE 2019 NJ JUNIOR THESPIAN FESTIVAL
In this month of December, Lillianne P. Torrente, NJ Junior Thespian State Board Sponsorship Coordinator, invites you to attend the 2019 NJ Junior Thespian Festival.
Here’s where your drama students would find themselves face to face with like-minded peers, learning from other theatre professionals,
and showcasing their talents.
Walk into the NJ Junior Thespian Festival and you will see middle school students performing, singing, dancing, laughing, and learning together in an atmosphere charged with excitement and abundant in smiles.
provides opportunity
I remember taking my students to the NJ Junior Festival for the first time, not sure what to expect. I was looking to offer them an opportunity to perform outside of the school. I wasn’t satisfied with the passivity of attending a local playhouse production. I wanted something more for them. I wanted them up and moving, engaged and participating, sharing ideas together. I wanted them learning “on their feet” about theatre, not just watching from the sidelines.
encourages learning
In addition, I wanted my students to hear other professional voices besides my own. If your students are anything like mine, they stop “hearing” what you are saying. “Sing out, Louise!” Of course, if another voice makes the same suggestion, suddenly they hear it as if for the first time! I wanted that for my students. A fresh take on the tried and true.
celebrates theatre
The NJ Junior Festival offers all that and more. A “showcase” opportunity for students to perform something from their latest school production, “individual events” in which they receive written critiques by theatre professionals, workshops in a variety of disciplines in which they move, think on their feet, and create. Think of the NJ Junior Thespian Festival as a professional development opportunity for your middle school students.
You won’t be disappointed!
